Transformative Mediation

Transformative Mediation is based on a theory and principles of conflict detailed in The Promise of Mediation, by Robert A. Baruch Bush and Joseph P. Folger (1994; Rev’d 2d Edition, 2005) which posits that 1) conflict is a crisis in human interaction, and 2) parties need help in overcoming this crisis and restoring constructive interaction.

Forest Floor Consulting as Mediator

Forest Floor Consulting LLC fundamentally believes that parties have the capacity to shift their destructive interaction to a constructive and connected interaction, with the support and intervention of a transformative mediator. I do not provide answers or solutions, and I do not take sides. I DO support all parties in being heard, hearing others, and moving through conflict in such a way as to transform their own abilities to make decisions that are agreeable for all, together.

Expectations

All parties must come to mediation willingly. The parties in conflict are the parties that determine how the mediation will go. The only way out is through, but in moving through the conflict in a supported manner, all parties start to build the skills of moving from destructive interactions to constructive ones. We will never escape conflict, but it doesn’t have to be a bad thing. Conflict can refine our goals, open us up to new ideas and perspectives, inhibit personal and organizational growth, if we let it.
