Training Design
Building the understanding that undergirds Threat-Conscious Practices takes time. It’s a deep mind-shift that requires repetition in smaller blocks of information, instead of an 8 hour training given once. Once seeded and built, these practices should change how trainees interact with everyone they encounter, including themselves. I start with my basic curriculum, but can tailor that to your organization.
Tailoring
Each organization is unique, based on the history of the organization, and the history of the humans that make up the organization. Tailoring the training to the specificities of your organization makes it more likely it will address the needs you face. There are a few ways I like to get the lay of the land of the organizational forest, so to speak.
Via listening sessions: asking open-ended questions and recording (with anonymity preserved) the discussion that ensues, with smaller groups from all levels of the organization.
Via conflict mediation: often when an organization seeks out training specific to the health of their culture, they are responding to a crisis of sorts, it may be conflict that threatens to spread throughout the organization. There is likely the need to address the “fire before the smoke.” With my training in Transformational Mediation, I come to the table to support moving through the conflict in a way that honors all parties’ needs to be heard.
Via observation: sitting in meetings, rehearsals, work sessions and observing how people currently interact with each other is deeply instructive in assessing what is happening at the soil level of the forest.
